Pool and plush rooms
A welcome new entry in Mae Chaem’s accommodation scene, comfortable Baan Kub Doi is perhaps more hacienda than Lanna.
They boast an L-shaped, tile-roofed building, with rooms plus balconies overlooking a small lawn and pool. Rooms are spacious and airy, with sliding French doors and partitioned balconies, and interiors are spotless, though undecorated, lending a rather clinical feel. Doors are glass, which lets in light, but there are curtains for privacy.
The air-con rooms come with attached bathroom and hot shower, wall-mounted flatscreen cable TV and WiFi. They do have low and high season rates but we’re sure these are negotiable. Note that there are a couple of smaller rooms without balconies that are squeezed into the junction of the L which are offered at a budget price. Rates include a simple breakfast, served in a separate cafe area.
Baan Kub Doi is located just down a short lane off the main street next to the 7-eleven. It’s a very reasonable deal in low season, even if you may feel like you’ve checked into a rehab clinic rather than northern Thai village guesthouse.
