Functional, clean and cheap
Functional and convenient, Baan Fang Hotel is well situated just 100 metres or so right at the traffic lights on the Mai Ai Road, so it’s within easy walking distance of most of the bars and restaurants, and well placed for a stroll up the hill behind.
While efforts have definitely been made in the comfortable, downstairs communal area, the rooms are spartan, though do come equipped with cable TV, fridge, air-con, WiFi and hot showers. For 350 baht a night, including a simple breakfast of tea or coffee and toast, you can probably happily forgo the usual Lanna-style decor. Downstairs rooms do look onto the communal area and motorbike parking, so if it’s busy ask for an upstairs room. All rooms otherwise are pretty much identical and no seasonal supplements are charged. They also offer a phone-up traditional Thai massage service which was excellent, and a bargain at 150 baht per hour; it was very welcome after a day on the bike up and down Ang Khang. Staff are low-key and helpful, with some basic English spoken.
