Friendly and cosy
The longstanding Auang Kham Hotel had seen a recent facelift when we last stopped by in 2015, and boasts clean and comfy rooms at very good rates.
The air-con or fan-cooled rooms are simple but well appointed with TV, fridge, WiFI, hot-water showers and free tea and coffee in the mornings. Whether you choose air-con or fan-cooled rooms, they are actually the same – price just depends on whether you turn on the air-con or not. You can’t really describe the yard as a garden and the hotel is still definitely well lived in, but it is off the main street, quiet and cosy and there’s an overall cosy atmosphere to the place. With friendly, helpful staff who speak some English, it’s a toss-up between here and nearby Baan Fang for the best budget spot.
The hotel is tucked just down a side street off Tha Pae Road (slightly before Baan Fang), and is clearly signposted. The main building – a two-storey, bright orange colour – is difficult to miss and behind there’s a courtyard area with a handful of green concrete chalets as well.
