Just down a side lane to the right of Route 107 as you enter town, Baan Sa-Bai Hotel is well signposted in English, easy to find and only a kilometre or so from the centre of Fang.

A few new Thai-style hotels now lie out this way but this is the clear pick of the bunch for us. It is also one of the few with an English sign, plus it has helpful, friendly staff (though possessing little spoken English), and spotless rooms in a quiet location. The three-storey building is freshly painted in white with a simple but pleasant garden and a car park, so it’s set a way off what is already a quiet lane. Rooms are lacking in decoration but more importantly are clean, comfortable and come with air-con, cable TV, fridge, WiFi and hot ensuite shower plus coffee or tea in the morning. It’s not a bad deal and no seasonal supplements are applied.
