Smart and comfy flashpacker address
Small, smart and sharp, the villa-style Kanlaya is a welcome new flashpacker option situated towards the northern end of Chiang Rai’s main bar and cafe drag, Jetyod Road.
The house manages to fit in an agreeable communal seating area-cum-cafe plus a small garden out front. On the street side of the garden between the driveway and fenced off smoking area is a white-painted stupa which we assume has been around for several hundred years more than the guesthouse has and certainly makes for a cool garden feature!
Sensibly they haven’t attempted to cram too many rooms into what isn’t a huge building and so while having a limited number of rooms they are all reasonably-sized. Curiously only some of the rooms have exterior windows while others look onto the interior corridor.
Rooms are in the stark but functional category so lack any charm but are spotlessly clean and for the price, well-appointed. They come with TV, WiFi, fridge, air-con and hot water en-suite bathrooms and being relatively new everything seemed to function well.
For reasonably priced, clean and functional rooms in a very convenient location then Kanlaya is undoubtedly a good choice—especially if Baan Jaru is full.
