The only riverfront guesthouse in central Chiang Saen is this longrunning joint, which is decidedly tired around the edges.
Fewer backpackers come to Chiang Saen these days, and it’s sadly slid down hill from its 1990s heyday. The garden and exterior are in desperate need of a bit of TLC while you can’t even enter reception as it’s blocked off by the owner’s collection of aggressive pet hounds.
Some of the smaller rooms are a bit dingy but most are actually okay inside and kept clean, but you wouldn’t guess that from looking at the exterior. There’s hardly two rooms alike in the ramshackle building, but they are mostly spacious with attached bathrooms and tiled floors. The guesthouse has some communal seating areas but we couldn’t even see drinks let alone food, and there was no bicycle or motorbike rental either. The location is handy, on the corner of Rimkhong and Soi 4 roads, and there is a small garden.
