More on Mae Sai

This somewhat rundown old Chinese hotel/backpacker hostel has nothing to do with the more famous hotel and guesthouse of the same name in Chiang Mai -- though given their location, the name may be a more accurate description in this case.

Travelfish says:

It’s right on the main street of Mae Sai just before the bridge on the left, so it’s very convenient. When it comes to the rooms, we’d give them a 4/10 for their dingy fan rooms, which are overpriced at 450 baht, but a snappier 7/10 for the airy and clean air-con versions, which are priced at 700 baht. The former do come with bathrooms and hot showers but most have windows looking directly onto the interior corridors or else none at all. Air-con rooms come with balconies out front so you can sit and watch the hustle and bustle, though lower floors may well get a bit noisy at night. The decor’s nothing to write home about and the manager was decidedly grumpy when we visited but overall this is not a bad choice if you absolutely have to have an air-con room in town and you don’t want to pay large hotel prices. They have a rather good coffee shop and restaurant out front which is one of the very few (if not the only) restaurants in town specifically catering to Western tourists. They offer reasonably priced Western breakfasts and sandwiches as well as a range of standard Thai dishes. Coffee’s good and juices and teas are available too.
