Don’t be put off by the mosque immediately behind the guesthouse—there’s no early morning call to prayer broadcast in Mae Salong—and set back from the main road in a tiny garden, this is actually a peaceful spot. They’ve recently added a new block—too small to be described as an hotel really—with reception and restaurant downstairs and a single floor of rooms above. (The flat roof is used as a cafe/seating area during dry months.)

The individual concrete chalets set in the cute garden and coming with welcoming verandas are spotlessly clean and well-appointed with fans, fridge, cable TV, hot shower and workable WiFi. Interiors are decent sized, furniture functional and decor is simple yet agreeable though a minor criticism would be lack of a bedside light.

Rooms in the recently built block are comparable in price—rear ones being slightly cheaper—making for a bit of a toss-up. They still come with individual balconies and interiors plus bathrooms are somewhat newer and smarter, but they lack the garden setting. Front rooms are airy and bright and do have great views but catch more from street noise than the chalets at the rear.

The owner—and indeed all staff members we met—were enthusiastic, friendly and spoke good English. The restaurant does food and drinks during busy months and makes a pleasant spot to sit. There’s plenty of local info available and motorbikes for hire at a mere 200 baht per day.

With its convenient central location, comfy rooms and welcoming staff, Little Home would be our top choice in the budget to flashpacker range in Mae Salong. Popular and with limited room numbers makes this one where you’d need to book in advance during busy periods.
