Mr Ho Guesthouse consists of two floors of rooms above a Chinese cafe just down the main street from the town’s 7-eleven focal point. Don’t be put off by the basic downstairs eatery with its plastic chairs and stark interior; the rooms are spotlessly clean, spanking new and a great deal.

Mr Ho is former part-owner and manager of Shin Sane who—without delving too much into family politics—apparently didn’t see eye to eye on the old guesthouse’s make-over so sold up and moved down the street to open his own place.

Upstairs are two floors of rooms with communal balconies out front offering great vantage points for checking-out the comings and goings in the town centre. Being new, the interiors are spotless and the lack of decor and white paint scheme at least serves to make the rooms look larger even if they won’t win any design awards. Furniture too is minimal though comfy beds, mattresses and duvets guarantee a decent sleep although we reckon the front rooms could be somewhat on the noisy side.

There are twin configuration options for a few baht more and all rooms come with equally stark, white but sparkling clean ensuite bathrooms with hot showers plus there’s WiFi throughout.

For the price and absence of high season supplements for rooms we’ll happily forgo any buffed cement or Chinese lanterns and the convivial Mr Ho and well-placed terrace largely compensate for his tin tables and plastic chairs. It was all very new when we visited in mid-2018 and with Mr Ho’s extensive experience in the guesthouse trade we’d expect a few additional flourishes and improvements to be added. Already an excellent deal though and even if you stay elsewhere, it’s well worth popping in for a beer and a natter with the entertaining and knowledgeable boss.
