Khun Dok Saew is right in the thick of the action above Rom Fah Thai village, where vividly painted resort upon resort are piled one atop another.

This one is slightly off to one side, so with some semblance of tranquillity and sited on the lower section of slope so not too much of a struggle to get up and down to the shops and cafes. We went for the pink and orange resort reached by taking the concrete path climbing the hill opposite the police box. Khun Dok Saew is the third on the left. Weekdays the surrounding resorts will all be pretty empty anyway but we can imagine this gets pretty hectic during busy periods since there are so many resorts it is frequently difficult to see where one starts and the other ends. Rooms were pleasant enough with comfortable beds, TV, WiFi and en-suite bathrooms and we found their low period rates very reasonable. New bungalows were particularly good with fine balconies and views and their large chalets are convenient if travelling with a group of friends or family. There are myriad resorts above the village – most with vividly painted orange, pink, purple bungalows and we didn’t check everyone but if you do want to stay in the village this seemed like a good choice. The boss was friendly and spoke some English and provided information on the area; – hikes and transport. They also seemed more than happy to open all days of the week and all seasons which didn’t seem the case with certain adjacent resorts.
