Set in a quiet location, Sylvana offers swish chalet rooms set around a mature garden at decent low-season rates.

Set down the lane aside Wat Pa Kham and leading to the river, Sylvana is just a stone’s throw from Walking Street, but without the noise and through traffic. This used to be the location of Family House, which has re-invented itself as a midrange spot, so Sylvana was lucky to have a ready-made, spacious garden with mature trees and plenty of shade to settle into. They’ve set out their new chalets around the garden edge with seating and chill-out areas in the centre along with a recently added (as of 2017) and reasonably sized pool.

Rooms are set in a horseshoe around the garden and are airy, well-decorated and well-appointed, and come in four different flavours. Superiors are adjacent rooms in small one-storey blocks though each has an individual balcony, then there are individual villas, deluxe villas and large family versions of the same.

From the outside rooms are nothing special but interiors are bright, well maintained and pleasantly decorated. Superior rooms come with functional furniture and fridges but all have ensuite showers, air-con and workable WiFi. Villas are larger as prices increase up to well-sized family ones, and decor seems to improve as you pay more.

There’s a small cafe, bicycles are available for guests to use free of charge and we found staff and management very helpful. There’s plenty of info and travel assistance available and the location is very convenient. The setting is cute but low season rates are probably a fair reflection of room quality, and standards do not merit their inflated high season prices.

The resort is a popular one throughout the year—particularly with Chinese visitors—so even for low season, booking in advance is prudent. They claim that their website has occasional deals and discounts and, as with many pricier spots, we’d expect to find much better deals from online booking sites.
