Popular and long-running Breeze of Pai offers clean, decently sized rooms and, unusually for Pai, excellent value for money across both low and high seasons.

Breeze of Pai has a block with rooms along with detached bungalows in the garden to choose from, with either fans or air-con. All come with private bathroom and hot water. The place has something of a Mediterranean feel to it, with the chalets finished in an ochre wash and a lush garden filling the gaps in between.

Breeze has been going for a long time, and perhaps with all the new locations opening up in town could do with a bit of work in the near future. Space is at a minimum so any makeover would require some imagination but the dingy block of rooms running down one side could go, or at least be redesigned to allow some light in. We’re always a fan of lush vegetation, but again cutting some back would create more space and brighten things up a bit. A couple of family-sized pots of varnish wouldn’t go amiss either.

Considering their rates though, we are nitpicking. The chalets—really just elaborate A-frames—are good for the money. Rooms in the block are actually more spacious than the bungalows and rear windows let some light in, but the individual chalets do come with great little balconies looking onto the garden. They are past their prime and decor is not a selling point but rooms are clean, the air-con and WiFi work, and ensuite bathrooms have hot showers.

The location down the quiet alley running between Chaisongkran and the river isquiet yet central. Staff and management are also a big plus here, as they do their best to make you feel welcome as well as helping organise treks, travel and sightseeing. There’s a small seating area with coffee, drinks and tons of information by reception. Breeze of Pai is well worth considering at any time of year.
