At Rim-Pai Cottage you’ll find beautifully decorated and well-appointed traditional wooden chalets, set in a lush riverside garden where shaded paths wind through ornamental ginger and heliconias.

Staff are three-star resort standard: Efficient, helpful and friendly, and they run a very pleasant restaurant and bar serving Thai and Western favourites at sensible prices. Location is a big plus, since Rim Pai Cottage is set right at the foot of Chaisongkran Road by the river, but the spacious gardens definitely manage to keep the noise from adjacent Walking Street down.

Interiors of the 21 chalets are low-key and simple, with white painted walls and minimal decorations—no heavy-handed Lanna chic, which helps to keep the rooms bright despite the surrounding floral profusion. Standard rooms aren’t that big and it’s the furniture that provides the clutter, though the twin bedside tables and bench to dump your bag on are useful and the cane chairs presumably move to the balcony during dry months. There’s also a fridge, TV, stereo system and tea- and coffee-making facilities and the air-con, hot water and WiFi all work well. Some rooms come with fireplaces for chilly mountain winters—a nice touch. Room size increases as the price does, and larger suites and villas are suitable for families.

Rim-Pai Cottage has a rather complex pricing system, with numerous forms of accommodation on their small plot. There are garden superior chalets (lowest of their range) then there are garden superior cottages, superior garden chalets, garden superior something else and so on, plus various seasonal rates and website specials and packages. Check their site or those of online booking agents to be certain of getting the best deal!

During low season the accommodation is at flashpacker rates, and with its prime riverfront location is well worth considering during rainy season months. While prices do shoot up during high season, we have seen worse in the area.
