Reverie Siam is a relatively recent addition to Pai’s upper range selection and probably the plushest within the town itself. They do offer some reasonable low season rates and online deals so if you have a bit of cash it’s worth considering.

The hotel is very smartly turned out, with white-painted, two-storey buildings looking out over manicured gardens including a hedge maze and pools for both fish and humans to swim in. (The fish pool is larger.) Rooms are very well appointed as you’d expect for the price and service is top notch. There’s a choice of individual villas and rooms in a block with pool or mountain views. Though close to the river, most rooms are set well back from the bank due to flooding considerations. (In 2016 a severe flood forced them to close for two months and in 2017 a high flood wall was under construction.)

The resort is a mixture of styles, with a very traditional Lanna-style entrance and restaurant opening onto modern concrete two-storey houses that could just as easily be in Portugal or a particularly chic stretch of the Costa Brava. Downstairs rooms give directly onto the pond or garden, while upper ones also come with balconies. Interiors are as plush and well-appointed as you’d expect at their rates, but again include an incongruous mixture of styles from colonial four-posters to faux period French furniture. Whether or not it works is a matter of opinion but we had to make three trips before we could see a vacant room so it sure is popular. With a total of just 20 rooms on offer, they fill up fast.

The resort’s biggest claim to fame in Pai seems to be its restaurant; even if you don’t want to splash out for a room here, it is well worth considering for lunch or dinner. The cuisine reflects the eclectic decor, so includes Mediterranean dishes and tapas as well as Thai and north Thai offerings. Considering you can pay 100 baht for fried rice in certain Walking Street cafes their prices are very competitive. Their restaurant is where we found the decor to work the best with plenty of varnished wood, good quality furniture and a range of seating options including a splendid terrace overlooking the garden.

Location isn’t to its advantage however, and while they do offer free shuttle services it is a bit of walk from the town centre. Said bus does a loop through town stopping at all significant points and runs every 30 minutes between 07:30 and 23:00. Reverie is located to the south of central Pai in the newer part of town, so while there are some very good cafes in the vicinity it lacks any of the atmospheric charm old Pai may retain. Take the turning immediately before the police station and follow the winding lane for a kilometre or so before making a clearly indicated left just past the Wednesday market building.

Note that they have frequent offers on their website and when we visited in low season they were offering improved deals on their printed rates below.
