Yotaka@Pai offers some of the best-appointed and comfortable 500 baht rooms we’ve seen in Pai.

Formerly Baan Suan Rim Pai, the low-key chalet resort is still something of a work in progress since they also own next door's Yotaka Riverside, which was under renovation when we visited in mid-2017. With a long, thin garden, at present lined by ageing A-frames stretching all the way to the river, there’s clearly a lot of potential.

As it stands, the resort is still split in two with the @Pai section located behind the three-storey pebble-dash building out front looking onto Tesaban Road or Bar Street. This section also has a long thin garden, though in this case lined by more recently renovated twin chalets which don’t quite stretch to the river.

The well-maintained garden is a mix of ferns, orchids and shrubs amid a scattering of kitsch garden ornaments. Chalets are mostly in two-room blocks with private balconies out front and constructed from wood, concrete and log panelling. Some are adjacent and others back to back but basically all are very similar. The interiors, though not exactly large, are modern-looking, with combinations of varnished wood and polished concrete. We’re not sure if these are new or freshly renovated, but they’re very clean, neat and well-appointed, especially considering the 500 baht low season price tag. All come with air-con, hot ensuite showers, good WiFi and free tea and coffee, though do lack fridges.

Enjoy the shade (and quiet).

The staff we met were helpful, with decent English and the location, right in the middle of town yet quiet by virtue of the long thin garden, is excellent. We’re not sure if their low rates (by Pai standards) are merely an opening gambit by the new owners, but if they manage to maintain these rates then it’s one of the best all-round deals you’ll find in Pai. If the two spots are knocked into one, expect some further landscaping and perhaps a pool— a riverside cafe would be great. Let’s hope they avoid large rate hikes. Watch this space!
