Splendid riverside spot
Soppong River Inn is a picturesque chalet-style resort located in a pleasantly laid out garden overlooking the river.
The Seven Elephants Restaurant is set up on top of the low cliff above the Lang, making for a top spot for a cool beer -- or a cocktail -- after a hard day’s trekking. Food is very good quality –- try the Shan specialities -- and while not the cheapest in town, this is a good deal for what you get.
Accommodation is excellent and rooms are very well appointed with minibar, tea and coffee and TV, while effort has clearly gone into the decoration. The only drawback, at least from a reviewer’s perspective, is a rather complicated array of accommodation categories including: Nests, Bamboo Rooms, Rice Huts, River Rim Cottages, Leelawadi Cottages, the Champa Room and The Baan!
A brief rundown: Bamboo Rooms are individual chalets, decorated tastefully and with very nice bathrooms. Rice Huts are similar and of equal quality, but made mostly of teak. River Rim Cottage is the only one of these superb chalets with all the facilities, plus a lovely balcony overlooking the river below, The Baan is a large teak chalet suitable for families and Champa is a large room, also suited to families. Finally the Leelawadi Cottages are large, two-storey wooden houses with balconies and all the facilities you could ask for. All options have hot showers and all rooms are decorated with care and taste.
Discounts are offered for stays of more than a week or so and there are probably yet further accommodation categories -- check their very informative website as well.
River Inn is located just before you reach the village centre to the west and on the left side of the highway. Though only really a 500 metre walk they will pick you up from the bus station if you wish.
