Another guesthouse reaching two extremes, though less exaggerated than the Buakaew, with lake view rooms not as great but the viewless rooms not such a rip off.

Arunothai has a prime location in the centre of Chai Kwam Road, directly opposite the lake. While clearly a very popular spot, it didn’t seem very accommodating, even in mid week during low season, and we reckon there’s a big dose of resting on laurels here with the whole place having a slightly tatty around the edges feel to it. A couple of promising looking new spots were under construction close by and maybe that’ll wake them up a bit. Their best rooms are still good; large with great lake views and though they do lack balconies, they come with WiFi, air-con, en-suite bathrooms and free, albeit simple, breakfasts. Prices for these rooms compare very favourably price-wise with Buakaew but when you see what you can get for less money at Win we don’t see any point in their rooms without views. The ground floor has a good coffee shop with fine lake views from their terrace. Conclusion; if you can grab a front room with view for 800 baht ok, otherwise forget it.
