The long-running LiThai occupies a portion of a larger building with offices and restaurants; the reception office next to a roofed driveway isn’t exactly charming.

In fact, the place is really a budget hotel, not a guesthouse. Though lacking any shred of character, the rooms are clean and reasonably priced for what you get. The cheapest fan rooms rely on shared cold-water bathrooms and have one window facing a stairway -- some guests have complained of noise and darkness in these. For only 100 baht more, the larger fan rooms with private bathrooms are more inviting, and the air-con rooms are not bad value either. Some have complained of surly staff members; the ones we met were straightforward but welcoming enough. The location is good: around the corner from the train station and right next to the excellent Veggie Cafe.
