While the exterior of the Nakorn Phrae Hotel could serve as illustrative photo for a ‘shabby’ dictionary entry, rooms are not bad at all and staff are friendly and helpful.

(The hotel is run by the same guys as nearby Nakorn Phrae Tower
.) For 60 baht less, it’s barely worth considering the fan-cooled rooms, unless you’re seriously budget strapped, though we would recommend skimping on the additional 50 baht for an upgrade to superior. The only difference is that the so-called superiors come with a fridge and tiled floor otherwise the regular air-con have much nicer varnished wood floors. Rooms are clean, beds comfortable enough, and the WiFi and air-con work -- we even found an English-language movie on the TV. The location is excellent too, being a minute’s walk from the fine Gingerbread House for food and coffee and just two minutes' walk from the night market. The staff are keen to offer advice and the security guard helped fix our motorbike. Although only minimal English is spoken, staff were clearly chuffed to have a foreign guest.
