Great range of rooms
Set at the quiet end of a side lane that shoots north off Jarod Vithithong within sight of the songthaew stop, Blue House opened in 2014 alongside its sister property, Green House, to offer a great range of clean and affordable rooms.
Blue House looks spotless and feels pleasant as soon as you leave your shoes at the door and step into the reception area, which doubles as a common room with several wood tables. The place goes for function over form, but potted flowers, old-style Thai landscape paintings and, most of all, great attitudes from the English-speaking staff help to warm the place up.
Accessed by stairs, the spacious rooms come with shiny tile floors, soft linens on comfortable queen beds, small LCD TVs, long desks, large windows, fridges and good-size bathrooms with partitioned hot-water showers. We appreciated the fast and free WiFi, and binders with maps and loads of info provided in every room. The staff rents out motorbikes and bicycles while answering questions with a smile.
A stone’s throw away on the same road is Green House, an older wood building with dirt-cheap, fan-cooled dorms and private rooms with choice of shared bathrooms with cold water or ensuite hot-water bathrooms. The mixed dorms have four cots set up close together, relying on cramped bathrooms with Western-style bucket-flush toilets. Private rooms also have thin mattresses but more space and dark-wood walls. We’re talking spartan digs here but the prices are right. See reception at Blue House if you want to check out Green House, as the same folks operate both of them.
