Love that pool
One of five places to stay found down a quiet cul de sac within a 10-minute bike ride of the historical park, Scent of Sukhothai boasts a huge swimming pool, great service and comfy rooms.
The medium-size resort’s Thai-style room blocks are made of concrete and red bricks with wood trim and broad sloping roofs, all spread around a large lawn with frangipani trees and one of the better pools that we came across in Sukhothai. Kids will enjoy having plenty of space for playing and swimming.
Available in a few different sizes, rooms are immaculate, spacious and bright thanks to light colours and several tall swing-open windows. They all come with air-con, fridge, TV, desk, WiFi, hot-water kettle with free instant coffee and tea, soft beds on sturdy wood frames and private terraces with tables and chairs. Sangkhalok-style ceramic basin sinks and hot-water showers with curtains are found in the spacious turquoise-tile bathrooms. A friendly English-speaking staff, free bicycles and included buffet breakfast also help to make this one of Sukhothai’s best-value flashpacker places to stay.
That’s a good thing because competition is stiff in this cul de sac. You could save a little cash and still get a pool across the street at Orchid Hibiscus Guesthouse, or opt for the nearby Thai Thai Guesthouse or Vieng Tawan Guesthouse if you don’t care for a pool. Neighbouring Baan B&B is also a fine choice with more of a classic Thai atmosphere and similar rates as Scent of Sukhothai.
