Great for short and long stays
Set at the end of its own side lane within a quick walk of downtown, Phannu House is a solid choice for backpackers who are willing to pay a little more for some extra comforts.
Serving both long- and short-stay guests, rooms are available in an older two-floor cement building and a three-floor structure made of brick, wood and concrete. Equipped with a choice of fan or air-con along with decent beds, desks, fridges, TVs, one window and hot-water wet bathrooms, the cheaper/older rooms are rather drab but not bad for the price.
If you can swing the extra 100 baht, you’ll get a much more inviting room with wood accents, larger windows and newer appliances. Rooms have very little decor and there’s not much of a traveller scene here, but Phannu makes a good home base for those who simply want a clean room in a convenient location.
A car park and plenty of tables on a spacious open-air roofed common area fronts the building, and each room has its own table set up out front. The free WiFi worked well for us. There’s no breakfast available but you’ll find several good restaurants along with a laundry shop and internet cafe nearby.
The owners also run a convenience store out along the main road. The helpful manager rents out bicycles and motorbikes; give a shout into the house if you don’t see her at the info desk.
