After considerable renovations and some new construction since our last visit, Long Beach Villa claims the title of Western Haad Noppharat Thara’s most luxurious resort.
The grounds are awash with lush foliage and fountains under tall dipterocarp trees, pulling off a jungle retreat vibe that’s detracted only by a wide stripe of concrete through the centre of the property. The cheapest bamboo bungalows with thatch roofs are small but clean, with mosquito nets, a few windows, cold-water bathrooms and large porches with hanging seashells and plastic chairs. Newer air-con villas are quite flash and great for couples seeking a romantic room with comforts like LCD TV, fridge and spacious hot-water bathroom. They’re done up with polished concrete, hardwood furnishings, high ceilings, lots of thatch, rattan and bamboo touches, and sliding glass doors opening onto wide terraces with bamboo chairs. Similar villas are available with fan and no TV; the one we checked out was very hot. LBV rents out kayaks, motorbikes and mountain bikes and has a beachside restaurant where included breakfasts are served. The young lady who showed us around spoke limited English but was very patient. She told us that electricity, including free WiFi, run at all times except for a few hours in the afternoons. Prices on Agoda were higher than what we were quoted as walk-ins.
