It's always great to find cheap backpacker rooms at an incredible location, as is the case with the aptly named Topview.
The islander-owned resort has a small collection of bamboo and concrete bungalows perched high over a steep hill that affords tremendous views of Kantiang Bay and out over the Andaman Sea. The rooms are completely characterless and a bit more worn than those down at Cashewnut Tree, though they're reasonably well kept and come with porches that you probably won't want to leave thanks to the views. Inside they feature only beds, fans or air-con, screened windows with cotton curtains, cold water wet bathrooms and the cheapest wardrobes you can buy. The resort and attached restaurant are run by a young local man who has a casual attitude and enjoys having a good hearty laugh. He was quick to offer us a ride from Saladan. The resort has a communal computer to go with free WiFi. It's an easy 10-minute hop down to the beach from here, but expect a decent huff to get back up the hill.
