Locally owned Klong Jark Bungalows is the heart and soul of this beautiful beach.
Owner Sue speaks perfect English and offers far more thoughtful and attentive service than you'll find at many of the big, expensive resorts elsewhere on Lanta. A mix of bungalows are available, all with porches, from cramped woven bamboo fan deals to concrete air-con beachfront rooms with patriotic exterior paint jobs of the Thai flag. All of the rooms come with cold water and could use a good sprucing up; mosquito nets with numerous holes and grotty bathrooms were a couple of the reasons that we gave Klong Jark a 7 rather than 8/10 score, but the friendly atmosphere and phenomenal beach location will probably make you forget the bare-bones digs. An on-site restaurant serves excellent Thai food, and the entertaining bartenders are known to make some mean cocktails. Expect a fun, social atmosphere during high season, when fire shows light up the nights. A short walk from the beach brings you to Sun Moon Bungalows, a less friendly spot with slightly newer bungalows at slightly higher prices.
