Scenic but could be friendlier
You’ll need a cold drink once you reach Phuphaya since it’s found a rather steep walk uphill from the far northern end of Lo Dalum beach.
Set amidst a flurry of new construction on this headland beyond the Phi Phi Viewpoint Resort, once you step onto Phuphaya’s grounds it is peaceful and the sea views are spectacular. The resort is a mix of simple fan bungalows and more stylish wooden fan and air-con bungalows all set on the hillside overlooking the bay. Inside, the larger bungalows are bright with polished wood floors and vaulted ceilings. Room safes and WiFi are included (we didn’t check the WiFi signal, however). The surrounding grounds have beautiful thick trees and are well tended, and a small "private" beach is at the base of the hill. There’s an attractive open-air restaurant open for breakfast, which is included, and other meals. Overall, the prices are not too bad for the setting and room quality. The downside? We found the staff to be unfriendly at best. It really took some coaxing to even pry the most basic of information from them, much less get them arsed to show us around. Some will find it a tiring trek up and down the hill to reach the village and the beach. Noise from the bars on Lo Dalam might also be a problem.
