River view from the balcony
After checking out all five hotels in Krabi with “river” in their names, we still think the original, Krabi River Hotel, does it best.
The hotel stands directly alongside a scenic stretch of the riverfront walkway on the quiet south side of town, a 10-minute walk from downtown. Unlike other “river” hotels, there’s no road between the hotel and the river—only a pleasant walkway and lawn with broad tamarind branches for shade. You can walk a few minutes in either direction and be on a longtail boat to Ko Klang or Khao Kanab Nam. If you’re a jogger or cyclist looking to make full of use of the riverfront, the location could not be better.
Available with river-view balcony or without river view for less cash, the rooms and appliances (fridge, kettle, TV) are dated. But it’s all kept clean and everything works, including the free WiFi that you can access at the in-room desks. Beds are firm and tiled bathrooms with curtained hot-water showers, adequate. The kind Thai owner offers two kayaks and two bicycles for guests, who get an included breakfast on the riverside terrace each morning.
As for other “river” options, the River Front Hotel has solid facilities, including a small swimming pool, but it felt overly sterile to us. Then there’s the River View, which has average flashpacker rooms downtown; we prefer Just Fine when staying around there. If you prefer more of a guesthouse vibe, Rooms at Krabi is worth a look right next door to Krabi River Hotel.
