Quality flashpacker option
12 Uttarakit Rd, Krabi T: (075) 624 018 F: (075) 624 017
Baan Andaman was an early arrival in Krabi town’s wave of new flashpacker-style guesthouses, and it remains an excellent choice if you don’t mind the out-of-the-way location.
The cheapest rooms are spacious, clean and decked out with dark hardwood furniture, including elegant four-poster beds, and decorative touches like traditional Thai axe pillows and soft lamps. All rooms are equipped with fridges, desks, modern bathrooms and air-con. For an extra 200 baht, the upper-floor superiors are a considerable step up from the ground-floor standards thanks to more space and glass doors opening onto balconies with tables and chairs. The deluxe gets you more space and a sofa. Baan Andaman is the sister property of Dee Andaman, which is just around the corner. Guests at Baan can use the swimming pool at Dee and take advantage of a free shuttle to the city centre. Situated to the south of town near Thara Park, Baan Andaman's location is a bit out of the way, though it's only a 10-minute walk up Uttarakit to a bunch of traveller cafes, and another 10 minutes to the markets. All rates include a buffet breakfast.

has evolved into a mash-up of funky bars, Western restaurants, old-school markets slinging fiery curries and the same sorts of modest shophouses found in any Thai provincial capital. Somehow these pieces fit into a fun and intriguing puzzle, all set to a backdrop of mangrove-lined rivers, longtail boats, jagged karsts and a busy patch of the Andaman Sea.
