Sure we’re not on Ko Lanta?
Quite possibly our favourite place to stay in the entire Khanom and Sichon area, the Sichon Cabana is a windsurfer hangout that’s also an excellent option for holidaying families and couples.
Chilled-out downtempo music blended with a beachfront location and laid-back staff to remind us of some of the cooler resorts found on Ko Lanta and Ko Lipe.
Facing the sand on the northern end of Haad Sichon, a large common lounge grabs you with recessed lighting and clean lines in the light woods and polished concrete. The same subdued vibe extends to rooms fronted by wall-size glass windows, though only the priciest suites afford direct sea views. Situated in a single-floor building set back from the beach, the “Cabana Weekender” and “Cabana Bungalow” rooms are similar, with the latter bagging you more space. All of the minimally decorated rooms are equipped with air-con, LCD TVs, free WiFi, mini-fridges and some lightwood chairs and desks. The four “Honeymoon Suites” come with a lot more space, hardwood floors and larger terraces. These are set in a two-storey concrete building with connecting doors that make it possible for groups to put two or more suites together.
The few English-speaking staff members possess a relaxed yet friendly demeanor that’s just what we hope for on a beach getaway. Owner Palm is a windsurfing expert who rents out equipment and provides lessons for guests. Mountain bikes and motorbikes are also available for rent, and the staff does a good job of helping guests to explore the area.
Immediately next door, Prasarnsook Resort has a larger collection of similarly priced concrete villas and standard rooms in a three-storey stack, plus a small swimming pool. While not a bad choice, it lacks the cool character of Sichon Cabana. These two resorts share a driveway and are practically on top of one another; Cabana is the smaller one on the right.
