On the beach but a tinge overpriced
Baan Taranya sits all by its lonesome along the beach of Hin Kong Bay.
This 10-room resort with solid looking wooden bungalows running in a line straight back from the beach was full during our visit so we didn’t get a peek inside the rooms, but all have air-con, hot water, TVs and fridges, plus free WiFi. Two styles of bungalow are on offer: a superior bungalow or larger "honeymoon villa" bungalows, including one with a jacuzzi spa tub. The views across Phang Nga Bay are superb, and long-tail boat boats are available for charter at the small public pier adjacent to the resort. Taranya’s swimming pool looks inviting enough, but it’s inexplicably positioned directly behind the large restaurant pavilion so sea views are partially blocked. The beach is a narrow one-kilometre stretch of white sands, though probably due to the boat traffic it looks grubbier than other beaches in the area. Those hoping to explore the island will need to hire motorbikes or taxi service since there’s little within walking distance – the reception staff can arrange help this, as well as fishing, diving, snorkeling or kayaking trips. In all, it’s a relaxing and well-cared for place, but Thiwson Beach Resort to the north offers better value in this price range.
