A highly recommended budget choice
The Muang Thong doesn’t look too inviting from outside, but once inside it has a pleasant and cheerful atmosphere.
Mr. Hassim, the owner and manager, was busy with a group of other guests when we arrived, but offered a warm welcome once he was free. The lobby is simple but bright with green tile floors, and rooms upstairs are similarly cheerful. They also offer excellent value with each spacious room including TV, fridge, hot water in the simple but large and clean bathrooms. These are basic rooms but they are bright and well maintained. All rooms are bright and clean, but it may be best to ask for one in the back of the building as traffic noise could be an issue in the rooms facing the street. Aside from a central location near many restaurants and the bus station, the Muang Thong offers free WiFi, rents out motorbikes, and the associated M.T. Tour comes recommended for tours of the area. It was by far the busiest place in town when we paid a visit. Prices for the air-con rooms have edged up since our last review, but given the value, quality of rooms, location, services offered, and the warm hospitality of Mr. Hassim, Muang Thong remains our top budget choice in Phang Nga.
