Budget dorms near the beach
Offering the best prices you’ll find this close to the beach, Patong Backpacker Hostel is a comfortable dorm tucked away in the upper floors of a three-storey shophouse along the beach road.
Found just north of the Bangla Road intersection, its sign is easy to spot from the road, just below a giant ‘Crocs’ shoe store sign. Its colourful dorm rooms, all reasonably clean with air-con and shared hot water bathrooms, come in a choice of four to 10 beds. Small storage lockers and WiFi are included in the price. The lobby is a comfy place to relax with a wooden platform with cushions set next to a big TV, plus a mishmash of dining and lounge seating. The staff here could have been a bit friendlier, and we noticed a lot of little signs posted everywhere listing rules and consequences for infractions, which we found off-putting. It’s a busy place though, just metres away from the Bangla Road bar scene, so perhaps a stern tone is needed to keep all the dorm-dwellers in line. If this hostel doesn’t appeal, the pricier yet rather more welcoming Lupta Hostel is just up the road.
What we were quoted as a walk-in.
