Budget hotel with a rooftop pool
This hotel is a six-storey concrete box, but it’s as charming as a concrete box can get.
Ideal for travellers on a budget looking for a few extra comforts, the main selling point here is the rooftop swimming pool. Its 28 rooms are all of similar design, with air-con, WiFi, TV, fridge, kettle and a private hot water bathroom included, some with balconies. Wooden wall panelling adds some warmth to the otherwise unremarkable, yet clean, rooms. Some rooms have a king and single bed and others are connected, convenient for families. The restaurant and lobby area have Thai design touches, and we found the staff here to be efficient, friendly and helpful. Thai Siam is located in a newly built up area on the south side of Patong chock full of similar sized hotels and condos, so if it’s full or not quite what you need, several other choices are just a short walk away – try the Sunshine Patong Resort or the Malin Patong Hotel, for example. It fills up quickly here, so booking ahead during the busier months of November to April is recommended, but for low season (July 2015) we were offered an excellent walk-in price of just 550 baht.
