Central and friendly
Easy to miss near the corner of Chomsin and Phetkasem roads, Tid Tarad has an excellent reputation on Hua Hin’s low-budget end.
We found the owner to be friendly, professional and attentive to his guests, and the central location puts you right next to Chatchai day market, a three-minute stroll from the night market and Bangkok bus stop, and no more than 10 minutes from the beach. Rooms are set back behind a small common area, each with air-con, thin mattresses on basic steel frames and small tables. The lone eight-bed dorm room is for women only, making this spot especially popular with female backpackers. Each bunk bags you a reading lamp, electrical outlet and locker, but you might request an upper bunk as the lower ones are very close to the floor. Dorms and all but one of the privates rely on shared hot-water bathrooms. The place attracts a wide mix of travellers, from young weekending Thais to older German backpackers, ensuring that there’s always someone interesting to chat with.
