Varin Village

Varin Village

Grumpy but cheap with a great location

More on Ko Lipe

Varin Village’s old bamboo bungalows lean over a prime piece of real estate fronting central Sunrise Beach -- it’s just a shame about the “staff” that can be grumpy almost to the point of being hostile towards guests.

Travelfish says:

Dozens of thatch-roof bamboo huts are spaced fairly far apart across a massive lot of grass and trees; most in the third and even fourth rows have partial sea views from a couple of plastic chairs on the porches. Inside you’ll find nothing but a hard mattress, fan, mosquito net and mouldy cold-water bathroom with cement floor and bucket-flush toilet. Front-row editions are among the cheapest beachfront rooms on Lipe; you’ll be lucky to score one in high season.

There’s no restaurant, WiFi or any other services, with only a desk at the back of the property serving as “reception.” If rooms are available, the “staff” barks out prices and will shoo potential guests away like flies if they ask ask a lot of questions. If rooms are full, you probably won’t find any staff at all. There’s also no security apart from glaring fluorescent lamps that can make it difficult to sleep in certain huts; don’t leave valuables in your room when going out.

The place caters almost exclusively to walk-ins, but you could try contacting through the website of Varin Beach Resort, an uninspiring midranger on Pattaya Beach run by the same group.
