Phuritra Resort

Friendly with unusual rooms

More on Ko Lipe

Featuring Lipe’s most unusually fashioned bungalows, Phuritra is operated by a youthful group of Thais who expanded in recent years to open a pair of cheaper sister properties nearby. Running down a leafy hillside to the beach and an elevated dining terrace affording views to Ko Adang, Phuritra’s bungalows were built in a number of different shapes.

Travelfish says:

The "Capsule" has rounded corners; the "UFO" looks like the upper three points of a diamond (or spaceship?); and the "Shark Fin" is, well, self-explanatory. A few more traditional-style bungalows stand beside steep precipices with attached sea-view porches.

Parquet wood, tall windows, modern furnishings and paintings of little silver pigs make these rooms classy, comfortable and a bit quirky, but the odd shapes often mean less space than you might expect for the prices. Outfitted with firm beds, hot-water bathrooms, LCD TVs, mini-fridges and air-con, the rooms face in different directions so that loungers on your private terrace don’t face another room.

Though English isn’t a strong suit for some staffers, the young Phuritra crew has always been welcoming to us. The group also runs Phuritra Sabai, a cheaper sister property with more typical bungalows across the lane from the original resort, and Baan Peang Por with its bizarre round-roofed metal huts fetching around 1,000 baht further inland where Jack’s Jungle used to be. All three properties are popular among young and trendy Thai travellers.
