Slick family-size houses
Located a quick hop up the lane from Sunset Beach, Time to Chill has five rooms set in artistic bamboo houses blending into a forest.
Made of wood, bamboo and thatch, the fan-cooled bungalow and houses were constructed in a way that avoided harming the existing nature -- you’ll even find ceilings stitched around towering tree trunks. Set towards the back, a single log bungalow has a typical front porch with floor cushions to go with high-quality queen-size bed and mosquito net.
The other four rooms occupy a pair of two-floor buildings at the centre of the property. The upper two rooms feature vaulted thatch-and-bamboo ceilings and floor-to-ceiling doors opening to wraparound porches with hammocks and cushions. Lower-floor rooms also have spacious terraces and one lower unit bags you two bedrooms and an old-style wooden tub. Along with loads of space you’ll find vintage fans, four-poster bed frames and flashes of abstract art. Massive brushed concrete bathrooms come with glass basin sinks and rain showerheads, though it’s cold water only. Big families could rent out upper and lower units to have a full-size holiday home.
The laid-back Thai owners cook up individual breakfasts in the mornings and serve drinks at a small two-sided bar in the late afternoons and evenings. While you don’t get a beachfront location, it’s only a two-minute hop down to Sunset Beach and we love the natural setting, but you’ll want mosquito repellent.
Neighbouring Kafair Hut is another ultra-relaxing spot offering its own natural-style bungalows to go with fresh coffee and great sandwiches. Time to Chill has a three-night minimum stay and reservations are essential in high season.
