Rooms around a fishpond
Family-run Best House has a cluster of rooms in an attached single-floor building and detached concrete bungalows with porches overlooking a small fishpond.
All rooms come with air-con, TV and private hot-water bathrooms, making this a go-to option if you want the creature comforts. Rooms in front are rather dark, with only small windows, green tile floors and not much else, but the detached bungalows in back have larger windows to go with soft beds and larger bathrooms. A few family rooms with multiple beds should do the trick if you've brought the tribe along.
While it’s not paradise, this is probably the most attractive setting of any guesthouse in central Pakbara and the location near the pier is convenient. Staff doesn't speak much English and is not known for friendliness, though we’ve always had fine experiences with the owner himself.
Best House is also a tour operator drawing most of its business from local Thais who stay here as part of package tours to the marine parks. Boat and minibus tickets can be arranged, and the restaurant with free WiFi is a bonus. Rates spiked a bit since our last visit, though discounts aren’t out of the question when the place isn’t packed with Thais.
