The Coast

A solid fancy pants option

More on Ko Pha Ngan

If you're looking for a more swanky bed, but don't really want traditional hotel style, consider The Coast – we like it a lot.

Travelfish says:

Opened in late 2012, the Coast is easily the most upmarket spot on Haad Rin's sunset beach, so if you're looking for a modern finished resort with a horizon pool just designed for sunsets, a wet bar, a great restaurant, and outstanding staff, then this is the place – and the rates are a steal.

Running from the road down to the beach, the rooms tumble down through lush, leafy gardens contrasting with the gun metal grey and glass finish of the rooms, before finishing with the beachside deluxes (set over two floors of rooms), the swimming pool and restaurant overlooking the beach and Ko Samui in the distance. It's lovely.

Chilled red, black and grey finished rooms have a modern chic appearance – think plenty of finished concrete, comfortable beds, immaculate bathrooms, and, in the case of the upstairs ocean view deluxe we were shown, an outdoor bathtub offering views out to sea. While furniture otherwise is minimal, rooms come with all the standards you'd expect of a hotel of this class. The rooms we saw had decks, adorned with modern furniture rather than hammocks, but to be honest you'll probably spend more time by the pool than on your balcony.

The horizon pool abuts a small beach bar and the sand out front has a couple of rows of wood and steel deckchairs and a scattering of red beanbags – some under the sun, others sheltered beneath a great shade tree. Rates are very reasonable for the standard, and considering what some dumps are charging over the Full Moon, the rates here are excellent value. If this fits your budget and you're looking for a bit of a chic getaway, look no further.

A little further up the beach is C Villas, but it is a far bigger step down in standards than in price, the only other hotel along this beach in this class is the brand spanking new Sunset Beach Club, but we really preferred The Coast despite the higher price tag. Recommended.
