Tasteful luxury resort
If you're looking for a spendier, more luxurious choice on Haad Salad, the friendly and well designed Green Papaya, set towards the northern end of the beach delivers the goods.
Despite being around for quite a few years now (note the lush, well tended gardens), the resort remains in very good condition and we were taken aback by just how friendly the manager and staff were here. The resort offers a wide range of lodgings, from affordably mid-range bungalows back off the beach along with some more typical hotel style rooms in a two storey building at the rear of the resort. The closer to the beach you get, the more luxurious it becomes with a rambling freeform pool running down the centre of the tropical grounds. Green Papaya was almost at capacity when we visited and the only room available to see was one of their premium offerings, the beachfront villa.
Bungalows have big decks (no hammocks) and some have a recliner. The pool meanders down most of the length of the resort and empties over a few curved steps towards the sea and set just back from the beachfront restaurant. Only one room (the beachfront one) has a solid beach view, most of the rest are garden view with just slashes of blue, though we assume the upstairs rooms towards the rear of the resort offer sea views. The beachfront villa was spacious and stylish without the cheesiness you sometimes encounter and terrifically positioned to take in the sunset from bed. The bathroom was well decked out with a curious shower head.
The nearby Salad Beach Resort and, at the southern end of the beach the Salad Buri (both owned by the same group) also offer a high standard of accommodation, and would do at a pinch, but we preferred the jungly more boutique feel here, and, as noted above, the service was excellent. Haadlad Prestige just to the north of here, is another midrange option worth consideration. While these other options are good, if Green Papaya fits with your budget, it would be our top recommendation for Haad Salad at this pricepoint.
Green Papaya has a wide range of pricing options, be sure to check their website for the full spread and shop around online for a competitive rate.
