New Paradise Beach Resort on secluded Paradise Beach has a long row of cookie-cutter concrete villas leading up to a small swimming pool and beachside restaurant and bar.

At first glance we were disappointed to see the bland-looking villas standing one after the next along a dirt path that was once shrouded only in tall grass and coconut trees. While the chunky concrete was off-putting to us, our opinion did change after being greeted by a notably friendly manager and other staffers who were quick to show us rooms, which are more interesting from the inside.

Set two to a building with beanbag chairs outfitting a common terrace in between, the modern rooms come with cool black images of the monkey-warrior Hanuman painted on white brick and concrete walls.

Done up with wide glass windows, cushy beds, fridges, LCD TVs, kettles and large hot-water bathrooms, these are some of the slickest rooms on Ngai. The view from large attached porches is of coconut trees rather than ocean.

Solid fare for Ko Ngai.

The question to ask yourself is, do you want to stay on a beach with only one resort that’s a 20-minute jungle hike or pricey boat ride from the main beach? Paradise Beach is pretty, with a southerly view to Ko Kradan, but the sand is grainier and the water usually not quite as clear as on the main beach.
