Thumrin Hotel

Our rating:
3.5 stars, based on 1 expert review

Presumably trying to keep up with Trang's excellent guesthouses, Thumrin's 117 rooms had received some sprucing up since our last visit.

The 10-floor hotel still looks like a giant column of white in the centre of town, but the interior is now graced with tasteful teal trim and framed photos of peacocks and mangroves. The spacious rooms were outfitted with new appliances and looked spotless, with minibars, TVs, desks and bathtubs. The bright fifth-floor room that we peeped affords views over Rama VI Road and its row of frangipani trees through large tinted windows. The on-site Chinese-Thai restaurant is going strong, and the English-speaking receptionist who showed us around was more professional than the guesthouse staffs. The same group also operates the Thumrin Thana, a large business hotel with a not-so-inviting swimming pool and more expensive rooms further north from the train station. If you're after something more luxurious, you might try Rua Ratsada Hotel far to the east of town.
