Being greeted by friendly English speaking staff here was a surprise and an even bigger surprise were Duc Long Gia Lai 1’s large, bright rooms that would please most backpackers.

The tidy rooms have tile floors, flatscreen TV, air-con and fan, a vanity that doubles as a bedside table, solid wood furniture, WiFi and decent white linens including duvet covers. Most rooms we saw had a large window you could open to let sunshine and fresh air pour in making everything feel cheerful. Some even had a small balcony. Bathrooms are dated but you do get a hot water shower and a few cheap toiletries in the kit. It’s a small, unassuming place and we’re glad we stumbled upon it after checking out its cranky neighbours Thanh Linh and Thanh Binh (both we do not recommend). Duc Long Gia Lai 1 is a good value option.
