Dated, but great views
Although this hotel was built in 2006, the decor has a distinctively 80s feel, with nicotine-tinged chinzy curtains, silk accessories, boxy dark furnishings and handheld showers over bathtubs.
All the rooms we were shown had a 40-a-day scent, but we were assured that they do have a non-smoking floor that was fullly booked at the time of our visit. The suites come with huge (almost retro) black leather sofas while the restaurant screams pop-up rave hall with neon lighting; in the afternoons it doubles up as a karaoke venue -- the Riverside is as Vietnamese as you can imagine! The spa was closed some time ago and the massage services moved next door to the karaoke coffee shop. Beds are comfy and rooms are well-equipped with a safe, cable TV and WiFi. The upper levels (especially rooms looking over the Dragon Bridge) have spectacular views and staff are not shy of offering really good walk-in discounts. The location is a short walk over the bridge to the riverside Bach Dang and all its bars, restaurants and attractions. Breakfast is included, but you can opt out of it for a slight discount.
