Great value, but off the beach
Across the road from Non Nuoc beach are several low-key shophouse-style hotels.
Of these, we liked Phuoc Loc the best. Located across from the new beach access road down to Hoa’s Place, it offers decent, air-con rooms with cable TV and a small fridge. Over the years Hoa has helped the local owners improve both rooms and services, and the result is sparkling clean, spacious ensuite rooms, large comfortable beds with white cotton bed linen and Hoa on call to help with tour services, bike rental and providing a beach hangout and food. The main draw here would be for people travelling on a budget, who are looking for beach access (of which there is precious little left not taken up by big resorts) with easy access to both Da Nang and Hoi An. One thing worth mentioning is that although the owners here do speak English, their walk-in pricing system is a little creative. Your best bet is to go straight to Hoa’s and arrange your booking through him. He’ll openly admit to getting a kickback form the hotel owners, but the set prices he has bartered for guests are far cheaper than the ones you’ll be offered at the desk. Rates listed are what Hoa can get you.
