Environmentally friendly budget winner
As the name suggests, the family-owned and -managed Dragon Hotel holds a prime riverside position overlooking the Dragon Bridge and city skyline.
The owners here offer incredibly friendly service and squeaky clean, spacious accommodation. They get a big thumbs up from us too for their attention to the environment, having solar water heaters and eco-lighting systems throughout. Located a short walk from the central city attractions, the Dragon Hotel offers 11 comfortably furnished air-con rooms spread out over five floors. Basic rooms are positioned towards the back of the hotel and are a bit dark, but clever lighting, facilities and comfortable beds more than make up for it. Each comes equipped with minibar, cable TV, WiFi and newly refubished ensuite shower rooms -- they even include a free laundry service. We recommend forking out the extra couple of dollars for a front-facing twin room which features floor to ceiling windows, two double beds and a Japanese bathtub along with shower. A VIP upgrade gives you triple the amount of space, airy Japanese-style bathroom and two king sized beds from which you can look out over the city skyline. Breakfast is not included in the rates, but there is a great little noodle shop a few doors down.
