Great hotels but no views
The Mango family have two hotels on the same street, the cheaper original Mango Hotel and its grander sister, the Grand Mango built in 2012.
Both are great hotels with similar room layouts, bright, airy spaces with polished floors, comfortable but slightly firm mattresses, modern bathrooms, free WiFi, minibar and cable TV. A few dollars extra at the Grand Mango however buys you a little less chintz, a lot more view and a far better breakfast. The best rooms are out front with balcony views across to the beach, which is a two-minute walk from the hotel. Sadly Mango lost its beach views when the Holiday Beach Resort opened opposite. Grand Mango manager Miss Ly speaks great English and can help with motorbike hire, onward travel bookings and local advice. Both Mango and almost neighbour Grand Mango are situated within 100 metres of two popular bars, the surfer hangout Billabong and newly opened Vertigo, both of which serve decent local and Western food and are great places to meet other travellers and expats.
