You can tell a lot about a property by the way someone is received, whether they are a guest or not.
When we were warmly welcomed by the security guard, it was a great sign of good things to come at Hoi An Ancient House Village Resort & Spa. The welcoming feeling continued with the reception. In fact, without exception every staff we passed on the property, be it a gardener or housekeeper, paused what they were doing, looked us in the eye, warmly smiled and greeted us. In our experience, service attitude like this is a mirror to the entire resort experience. It was truly impressive and it is safe to say that guests can expect stellar service at this resort off of Cua Dai Road.
Surrounded by countryside, the 56-room property doesn’t feel overly big or impersonal. The grounds are spacious yet intimate, the spaces filled in with lush tropical gardens that offer privacy to the multi-storey buildings. Rooms are of a high standard, a pleasant mix of classic and modern. Enter the room and in the upper landing, find yourself in the semi-open concept bathroom which includes an enormous freestanding tub, a separate toilet room and shower room. A few steps down lead to sleeping/living quarters with a comfortable bed, sitting area and balcony overlooking either the pool or garden. Rooms come with WiFi, air-con, kettle, hair dryer, desk, minibar, bedside table and plugs, and TV.
Both the generously sized pool and the restaurant overlook a rice paddy, reminding guests that they are removed from the busy town -- three kilometres to be exact, equidistant between the old town and Cua Dai Beach. The resort offers free bicycle and regular shuttles to the town and An Bang.
It’s taken a few years for this resort to find its niche, but now that it has, it’s unlike any other in Hoi An and at its current price, excellent value. And if you aren’t convinced, as we left the security guard bid us a warm farewell. It certainly made us want to return.
