Escape the crowds
This place, around 13 kilometres from Cat Ba harbour, used to be called Suoi Goi Cat Ba Resort, and remnants of that time remain, such as the branded bed runners.
In fact, we’re not convinced much has changed with the name at all – we certainly didn’t see any signs of eco-ness – but if you want to get out of town and stay somewhere in countryside, this is the place for you. The spacious rooms are in three wooden stilt houses around a central courtyard and are, by virtue of their composition, dark and wood-like. Furnishings are basic but comfortable enough and staff are friendly. The lodge runs a free shuttle from Cat Ba town twice a day (book in advance) and provides directions on its website, but note the two kilometres from the main road seemed a lot further than that to us. Breakfast is included and, fortunately, you can buy lunch and dinner on-site too as well – although the food gets mixed reviews.
