Clean, bare rooms
It doesn’t take long guests to feel what a formidable woman Ms Ha, proprietor of Thanh Ha Guesthouse, is.
She runs the ship and the ship is run tight, her spartan rooms are spotless, clinical and well maintained. The tile gleams, and there’s plenty of it as in the tile even goes up the walls—There’s a certain hospital ward charm about it.
Still, it’s all a backpacker needs for a night—a hard bed with clean linens, ensuite bathroom—with a few thrills like air-con, flat screen TV on the wall, WiFi and hot water shower. Some rooms don’t have windows while others do and even have a small balcony.
There’s no view to speak of but for the price, one can’t complain. It’s just a few city blocks to the river, local market, tourist night market and pier. On the ground floor, there’s a small sitting area with complimentary hot tea and fruit for guests.
Ms Ha speaks English and rest assured, she’ll be asking if you’ve booked your floating market tour yet. Thanh Ha has been a solid pick for years and remains a popular choice for backpackers—so much so that Ms Ha’s business card warns of people on the street pretending they are her sister or brother trying to sell boat tours. That in itself is like an endorsement.
